There is actually some argument that Shakespeare didn't write this one at all. One of the reasons is that each line contains eight syllables instead of the usual ten. It is also much lighter in tone and considered by some as being less mature. Although it is simple is it a lot of fun.

However, there is an underlying layer of guilt expressed by the poet. In Shakespeare's case well founded as he had many affairs as a married man.
